Hello & happy Monday everyone! You may have noticed something different – I changed my blog layout! I’ve been feeling extremely positive and inspired lately, and I wanted to “refresh” my blog and my ideas surrounding my content creation! Remember that podcast I was talking about? And that ebook? And probably a dozen other ideas? They are finally coming, and will be announced very soon!
In other news: I know a lot of us are currently working from home, taking online classes, and are practicing self isolation/social distancing due to the virus pandemic. This is a scary time for all of us right now, and I hope you are staying healthy and safe during this time. We are all in this together, and I will always be here to lend support or some positive energy if you need to chat! With that said; I wanted to share some tips to refresh/”spring clean” your mind, body, and space! I know a lot of content has been floating around about this subject, however I want to focus primarily on detoxifying and cleansing in order to stay healthy and happy during this time. While I understand this is an incredibly serious matter, I want to share a little bit of joy and possibly inspire you to try some new healthy habits!
Clean Up Your Space
Deep clean your space, open up the windows, declutter, go through your closet, and the list goes on. Make a to-do list of what needs to be cleaned, and check it off as you go. Your space will look and smell so much better, and nothing feels better than accomplishing a to-do list!
Be Mindful of Your Drinks/Meals
It’s easy to snack all day and grab something unhealthy while you’re at home, but try to be mindful of what you’re consuming. I always start my morning with hot lemon water, hot unsweetened black tea, some coffee, and a huge glass of water, and I’ve been trying to incorporate celery juice into my routine as well! Try cooking new, healthy recipes, avoid purchasing beverages with a ton of sugar, and hit your water goal for the day!
Workout at Home
Possibly everyone’s least favorite tip to hear (including mine), but it’s so important to get moving and sweat out all of the toxins! There are a ton of free workouts on YouTube that you can watch (my favorite workouts are the Blogilates workouts!), and a lot of local gyms are offering live streams of popular classes. Doug and I have been talking Lily for a walk 2-3 times a day outside as well, which has been a great way to move our bodies while enjoying the sunshine and fresh air!
Breathe
Emotions are high right now, and we’re all experiencing a lot of stress, anxiety, and fear surrounding the pandemic. Take a few moments to breathe, and think of a few things that you’re grateful for. While it may not be much, it can help lower your heart rate and calm your mind for a little bit!
Meditate
Meditation (in my opinion) is one of the best ways to clear your mind, and to let go of what’s been bothering you. I personally prefer guided meditation, and I use the app Headspace almost every day (my goal is to meditate daily)! This has helped my mental health and my stress/anxiety so much, and I highly recommend giving it a try during this time! YouTube also has some great options for free, as well!
Work on Your Sleep Schedule
Regardless of how you’re practicing social distancing, focus on developing a sleep schedule that works for you! I am currently working from home and my workday starts at 9 am, so I like to go to bed around 10:30-11 pm. It’s easy to stay up until 3 am when you’re constantly at home (like I did last night due to a burst of inspiration lol), but developing a sleep schedule will help create a daily routine to follow!
Establish Healthy Morning/Evening Routines
This will help establish some structure to your day, and can help keep you on track! Wake up every weekday at the same time, and take some time to do some things that makes you happy and energized in the morning! The same thing in the evening – focus on unwinding and calming energy. I’ll share my morning/evening routines very soon!
Limit Screen Time
We’ve all had those days where you open your phone and end up scrolling for hours and don’t even realize it! Try to limit screen time/social media time to whatever works best for you, and spend some time away from technology. I personally am working 9-5 Monday-Friday, so I try to limit my screen time as much as possible after 5 pm.
Make Self Care a Priority
This goes along with breathing, meditating, developing a sleep schedule, morning/evening routines, exercising, etc. Take this time to focus on yourself and your self care! Give yourself a mani/pedi, put on a face mask, take a hot bath, stretch, journal, cook your favorite meals; whatever brings you the most joy and allows you to take care of yourself!
Try a New Hobby
If this is something that interests you, try a new hobby! For me, I am going to be working on my first podcast episode and I’m working on a few other projects. If you’ve been thinking of starting something new for a while, have this be your sign to start!
I hope you all are staying healthy and safe during this time, and are staying at home as much as possible! We’re all in this together, and we can continue to support and help one another! Sending you extra love and positive energy today!
x Tessa
